4-Car Accident, 2 Injured

Two people involved in a four-car crash on Tuesday are on the road to recovery. The accident happened on N.C. 24-27 near Newt Road.

Sylvia Hitch Burke, 71, hit three cars causing approximately 23,000 in damages after veering left over the center line in her 1994 Buick. Burke was traveling west when she crossed over and hit Raymond Alan Frick in his 1995 Ford pick-up. She hit the truck in the back fender, knocking the truck bed off the side of the road. The truck continued off to the right side and hit a utility pole.

After smashing into the truck, causing an estimated $5,500 in damage, Burke's Buick spun back around into her lane and then back across the center to a second vehicle that was driving behind Frick. Leila Lee Ely, 29, was behind Frick in her 2005 Chevy when Burke hit her in the front fender knocking her off the left side of the roadway. Ely's car sustained an estimated $8,000 in damage.

As Burke was veering left of the center line, the car behind her, driven by Roger Edward Honeycutt, 45, of 302 Pee Dee Ave., Norwood, continued in the right lane.

After colliding with Ely, Burke swung back into the right lane and into the path of Honeycutt's 1996 Dodge which struck her with the front right fender doing about $700 of damage.

By the end of the chain reaction of collisions Burke wound up with $9,000 damage to her car. She is listed in good condition at SRMC.
