More suits have been transfered to the The U.S. Judicial Panel on Multidistrict Litigation over whether zinc in denture creams made by GlaxoSmithKline and the Procter & Gamble caused neurological diseases.

All the plaintiffs claim that zinc found in the denture cream can lead to a condition known as hypocupremia — copper deficiency in the blood — that is often profound and irreversible, as well as other neurological damage, according to pleadings.

While the complaints all have slight differences, most complaints are similiar to the original complaint filed in late 2008.

That plaintiff alleged that GSK has continued to sell its Super Poligrip denture adhesive cream, which has included zinc since 1996, to its financial gain and without taking any reasonable steps to warn consumers even though it knew of the danger posed by ingesting zinc.

According to Plaintiffs, GSK knew that adding excess zinc could cause adverse health effects in humans.

GSK began marketing a zinc-free product called Super Poligrip Free around 1998, in aan attempt to mitigate its exposure to personal injury claims.

The complaint also claims that GSK continued to assure consumers Poligrip products were safe even after lawsuits in 2006 and 2007 alleging personal injuries from excess zinc absorption.

These cases are being consolidated in federal court in Florida so any consumers suffering from any neurological problems or especially hypocupremia after using any denture creams should counsult their doctor immediately.
