A sulfuric acid spill at Mallinckrodt Chemical in Raleigh forced the evacuation of the building and the Hazmat team was brought in. The hazardous substance leaked from a storage tank into a containment basin. The accident happened this morning at the plant on Capital Boulevard.

Officials say the leak, which was reported about 7:30 a.m., is confined to the company's property and initially posed no threat to the general public. But shortly after 2 p.m. fire officials decided to evacuate the Durant Road Pre-School as a precaution.

No one was injured during the incident. The sulfuric acid is currently being cleaned up.
