California Trucking Company Loses Hazmat License

A trucking company based in California has lost its license to carry hazardous materials. The trucking company delivered gasoline to 20 gas stations in the Bay Area. On April 29th one of the company's tanker trucks crashed into a highway ramp, causing a fiery trucking accident.

The suspension was based on results of an inspection of Sabek's terminal in King City done once every two years, however. The May 16 visit by Highway Patrol inspectors found defective brakes and loose wheel lug nuts on two of three tanker trucks and three tanker trailers. In the past year, three of every four Sabek trucks rolling into state roadside inspection station have been ordered off the road for serious safety violations.

CHP Commissioner Mike Brown told the company in a letter Wednesday: "It is evident that your company does not have adequate safety measures in place to ensure the safe operation of commercial motor vehicles used for the transportation of hazardous materials."

This marks the first time that a California trucking company has lost the ability to carry hazardous materials since 1992. The company has had a number of safety violations in the past.
