A car driving on Interstate 77 in Huntersville drove underneath a semi-truck. Two people were trapped inside the car. The truck accident happened this morning near the exit to Gilead Road.

Two people were pulled out of the mangled vehicle. A medical helicopter landed just south of the accident and transported one patient to the hospital around 11:30 a.m.

Medic originally called for a second helicopter for the second patient, but he is now being taken to the hospital via ground units.

The accident closed all the southbound lanes and caused a traffic backup. The police are investigating the accident and are unsure what caused it.
